Senior Java Software Engineer

Position: Senior Java Backend Engineer

Location: Remote from Portugal (for a Belgian client)

Seniority: Senior (7+ years of experience)

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a long-term international project focused on building a new backend application from scratch. You’ll work in a modern tech environment, collaborating with a distributed team, and following best development practices.

Main Responsibilities:

• Develop a backend application using modern Java technologies.
• Write high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Follow clean code principles and design patterns.
• Ensure strong test coverage (unit, component, and E2E).
• Collaborate with a remote international team.

Must-Have Skills:

• Java 17 or 21
• Spring / Spring Boot
• Experience with REST APIs and Microservices
• Docker (daily use)
• Kafka (including KStreams, Schema Registry, and data contracts)
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)

Nice-to-Have:

• Kubernetes
• CI/CD tools: Jenkins and Git
• MongoDB Atlas and/or PostgreSQL
• Elastic Stack (ELK) for logging and monitoring
• Authentication protocols: OIDC, OAuth2, SAML
• Experience with Azure DevOps
