Senior Economic Policy Analyst - Monetary Policy
Location: Brussels, with flexibility for remote work and travel across Europe.
Contract: A permanent contract under Belgian law.
ABOUT US
Founded in 2021 by the Berlin-based think tank Dezernat Zukunft, the European Macro Policy Network (EMPN) connects economic think tanks, research institutions, and experts from Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Austria, and Finland. This cross-European network combines policy experience – often at ministerial level – with academic expertise to address fiscal, monetary, and economic challenges, developing innovative policy proposals for a more sustainable, prosperous, and sovereign Europe.
YOUR ROLE
As Senior Economic Policy Analyst - Monetary Policy, you will be a cornerstone of EMPN’s growing Brussels team. Working closely with the Managing Director and EMPN’s Monetary Policy Expert Panel, you will help shape EU monetary debates through rigorous analysis, strategic outreach, and cross-border coordination. The role requires self-drive, vision, and experience in central banks (preferably), EU institutions, public administration, academia, or think tanks. You will report directly to the Managing Director and be supported by staff in Berlin and Brussels as the organisation grows. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordination – Organise and coordinate the work of the EMPN Monetary Policy Expert Group, including workshops and public events. Liaise closely with our lead experts to support the development of publications, including those for the European Parliament’s Monetary Dialogue.
- Research – Build on existing work and your own analysis to develop a framework for assessing the ECB’s monetary policy stance, including indicators to track supply- and demand-side price pressures in the eurozone. Review academic literature on inflation expectations and critically assess the ECB’s reliance on expectations in its decision-making.
- Advocacy – Work with EMPN teams and partners on topics at the intersection of monetary, fiscal, and energy policy. Build relationships with ECB officials, ECON MEPs, and relevant Commission officials to increase the impact of the EMPN’s work.
YOUR PROFILE
- You have a solid understanding of monetary policy. You possess strong academic knowledge, paired with over 3 years of professional experience in monetary policy (preferably), macroeconomics, financial regulations, or public finance. You combine this with solid academic training — an advanced degree in economics, law, EU affairs, or a related discipline is required (PhD preferred).
- You can write impactful policy briefs. You possess excellent English skills and can write sophisticated yet accessible texts. You have experience drafting policy briefs or conducting research and understand that our analyses are subject to public scrutiny, ensuring your work is accurate and conscientious.
- You are willing to advocate for policy changes. You are prepared to engage with central banks, EU institutions, governments, academics, and the media, or you are eager to develop these skills. Engagement and collaboration with these groups are crucial to our mission.
- You are willing to take ownership of your projects. You work independently and thoroughly and are determined to get to the bottom of things, even if that means going an extra mile or two. The team in Brussels and Berlin supports you whenever necessary or helpful, and you can also rely on our EMPN expert group and our national partners.
- You bring strong organisational skills and a solutions-focused mindset. Flexible and constructive in your approach to challenges, you have strong attention to detail, a process-oriented outlook, and an interest in organisation building.
- You speak fluent English and ideally both French and German; other European languages are a plus.

You'll have access to personal and professional development opportunities, including skill-building, networking, and the chance to shape your role. It's an environment where your ideas can flourish, allowing you to grow into the best version of yourself.
- Competitive salary: €65.000-€85.000 annual gross, depending on experience and skills. A standard benefits package — including meal vouchers, hospitalisation insurance (DKV), and other extras — is offered in line with sector norms.
- Flexible work environment: Primarily based in Brussels with options for remote work.
- Inspiring colleagues: Last but not least, you’ll join a fantastic team at our parent organisation, Dezernat Zukunft, in Berlin, and work alongside inspiring partners across Europe’s capitals — Paris, The Hague, Rome, Helsinki, Stockholm, and Vienna. Expect meaningful work, exciting challenges, and plenty of fun along the way.
