Freelance Data Engineer

Location: Brussels - Hybrid (2 days remote/week after training)

Duration: Full-time, long-term contract

About the Role

We’re seeking a talented Freelance Data Engineer to join a dynamic Data & Digital team, shaping a cutting-edge Data Platform that powers strategic business goals, innovation, and transformation. You’ll work in agile product teams to design and deliver data pipelines, storage structures, materialized views, and data exchange endpoints, while collaborating closely with business stakeholders to drive impactful solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

✔ Pipeline Development. Build and optimize data pipelines using Azure services (Databricks, Data Factory, Functions, Stream/Log Analytics) and Python in a Databricks environment.

✔ Data Architecture: Design efficient storage structures and materialized views for analytical technologies.

✔ Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with business analysts to refine requirements and present reusable, integrated solutions.

✔ Testing & DevOps: Contribute to extensive solution testing and reinforce DevOps practices within the team.

✔ Documentation: Create clear, structured documentation for data models, pipelines, and processes.

✔ Governance Support: Engage with data governance tools (Glossary, Modeling, Lineage, Data Quality) to ensure compliance and quality.

✔ Continuous Learning: Stay open to exploring new technologies like Redis, RabbitMQ, Neo4j, or Apache Arrow.

Ideal Candidate Profile

✅ 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in **2 of the following**:

- SQL Server

- Azure services (Databricks, Data Factory, Functions, Stream/Log Analytics, DevOps)

- Python-based data pipelines/enrichments in Databricks

- Power BI reporting

✅ Openness to learning new technologies (e.g., Redis, RabbitMQ, Neo4j, Apache Arrow).

✅ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on iterative, transversal data solutions.

✅ Customer-oriented, product-focused mindset with excellent communication skills.

✅ Team player who thrives in a collaborative, agile environment.

✅ Fluent in **English** (mandatory); proficiency in French, Dutch, or German is a plus.

✅ Experience in the energy sector is a bonus!
