Our Healthcare Innovation Team within FUSIT Labs operates like a startup within a larger organization. This multidisciplinary team—comprising technical researchers, clinical experts, and commercial strategists—focuses on developing solutions that improve patient outcomes and transform healthcare delivery.

With an entrepreneurial mindset, we work closely with hospitals, healthcare providers, patients, and regulators to guide innovations through the full lifecycle: from ideation and MVP definition to market evaluation, business case development, R&D, clinical validation, and early-stage commercialization.

👩 🔬 Role: Expert Research Engineer AI

As an Expert Research Engineer AI, you will contribute to the design and development of AI algorithms for healthcare applications. You’ll collaborate with researchers, developers, product managers, and clinical experts to shape the future of healthcare technology.

Your responsibilities include:

• Deeply understanding the challenges faced by end-users, partners, and patients, and translating them into innovative AI solutions.
• Iteratively developing first-of-a-kind prototypes and proof-of-concepts in close collaboration with internal and external (clinical) stakeholders.
• Staying current with academic research, international standards, regulatory developments, and commercial trends in healthcare imaging and visualization.
• Sharing insights with peers and contributing to external knowledge exchange (e.g., conferences).
• Collaborating across disciplines to develop and demonstrate impactful solutions.

👤 Who We’re Looking For

You bring:

• A Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Experience in medical device development (MDD/MDR, regulatory pathways, Software as a Medical Device, EU AI Act).
• Proven expertise in designing and validating AI algorithms for healthcare, including:
• Data collection protocol design
• Data cleaning, normalization, and handling missing data
• AI model training and evaluation
• Human factors and usability considerations
• Clinical validation and verification methodologies
• Strong skills in computer vision (e.g., segmentation, registration, post-processing).
• Proficiency in Python and major ML frameworks (TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch).
• Basic knowledge of medical imaging domains (e.g., digital pathology, radiology, surgical imaging).
• Experience working in Linux-based compute environments.

Bonus qualifications:

• 5+ years in AI research, MLOps, or image processing
• Familiarity with NVIDIA’s software ecosystem
• Experience with both on-premise and cloud-based AI development
• Knowledge of federated learning (e.g., NVFlare)
• Background in scientific publishing or funded research projects
• Practical experience implementing AI training/inference pipelines for healthcare
• Expertise in image calibration, enhancement, feature detection, and segmentation

• A collaborative team player with strong communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus)
