Freelance Data Engineer (Brussels, Belgium)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Freelance Data Engineer to join our team in Brussels. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support advanced analytics, reporting, and business intelligence needs. You will collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality, reliable, and accessible data.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Develop and maintain data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud-based storage solutions.
• Ensure data quality, governance, and security compliance in all processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and translate them into technical solutions.
• Implement automation, monitoring, and performance tuning of data workflows.
• Support the integration of diverse data sources (APIs, databases, streaming platforms, third-party tools).
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in data pipelines and infrastructure.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer (freelance or permanent).
• Strong knowledge of SQL, Python, and/or Scala.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Proficiency with big data tools (Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, etc.) and data orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Prefect, dbt, etc.).
• Solid understanding of data modeling, warehousing, and database design.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Knowledge of GDPR and data privacy best practices relevant to EU-based projects.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of French or Dutch is an advantage.
