About the Role

We are seeking an Expert Data Engineer (Freelance) to join our client's high-impact team in Brussels for a 12-month project. In this role, you will be the driving force behind data quality, integration, and governance, ensuring that data is not just accessible, but actionable. Your expertise will empower Data Analysts and Data Scientists to unlock insights and drive innovation across the business.

What You'll Be Doing

• Guaranteeing qualitative access to structured and unstructured data sources across multiple application systems
• Ensuring data mastery and quality through referencing, standardization, and qualification processes
• Integrating, mapping, and structuring data to facilitate seamless exploitation by Data Analysts and Data Scientists
• Cleaning and validating data, including duplicate elimination and quality checks before data enters the Data Lake
• Contributing to the definition and implementation of data policy and lifecycle management in collaboration with the Chief Data Officer
• Overseeing data management and processing on SAP BW/HANA, SAP XSA, and SAP BO DS platforms
• Developing and optimizing efficient data flows between development and infrastructure support teams
• Designing and delivering robust data migration plans and technical documentation
• Supporting PowerBI dashboard development and Dataiku-based data projects
• Ensuring compliance with current data regulations and best practices

Technical Skills

• Expertise in SAP BW/HANA application support and development (10+ years)
• Proven experience with SAP XSA setup and development (5+ years)
• Strong background in SAP BO DS design and development (5+ years)
• Proficiency in PowerBI dashboard creation (5+ years)
• Experience with Dataiku and DBX Data ingestion ETL (Atrias Files) (2+ years)
• Deep understanding of data structuring, mapping, cleaning, and validation
• Hands-on experience with Big Data and IoT data platforms

Language Proficiency

• Fluency in Dutch or French
• Professional proficiency in English

Other Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience in data engineering or related fields
• Demonstrated expertise in Agile development environments
• Proven ability to act as an intermediary between development and infrastructure support teams
• Strong ownership mindset, problem-solving skills, and a passion for impact
• Ability to work full-time on-site in Brussels
• Eligible to work in Belgium
