Infrastructure Engineer – Patching & Security
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled
Infrastructure Engineer
with strong expertise in
patch management across Windows, Linux, VMware, and network devices
. This role is critical in maintaining a secure, stable, and compliant IT environment. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, security teams, and infrastructure operations to plan, test, and deploy patches with minimal disruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Patch Management:
- Lead end-to-end patching cycles for Windows Servers, Linux Servers, VMware ESXi, and network devices.
- Evaluate, schedule, and deploy security and performance patches according to defined maintenance windows and business priorities.
- Ensure compliance with corporate security baselines and industry best practices.
- Vulnerability Remediation:
- Work closely with Security (SOC / Vulnerability Management) teams to assess risk and prioritize remediation.
- Validate and report patch compliance using available tools (SCCM, WSUS, Ansible, vSphere Update Manager, etc.).
- Collaboration:
- Partner with business teams to minimize downtime and communicate planned maintenance effectively.
- Liaise with security and compliance teams to pass audits and meet regulatory requirements.
- Operational Excellence:
- Maintain accurate documentation of patch cycles, exceptions, and rollback procedures.
- Automate patch deployment processes where possible to improve efficiency and reduce human error.
- Monitor infrastructure health post-patching and troubleshoot any resulting issues.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Keep up to date with latest OS, virtualization, and network security advisories.
- Recommend process improvements and contribute to long-term infrastructure security strategy.
What are we looking for?
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong hands-on experience in Windows Server Administration (2016/2019/2022) and Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
- Experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi patching and upgrades.
- Knowledge of network device firmware patching (switches, firewalls, routers).
- Familiarity with enterprise patch management tools (e.g., SCCM/MECM, WSUS, Ansible, Ivanti, BigFix).
- Security & Compliance:
- Understanding of vulnerability management, CVEs, and compliance frameworks (ISO27001, CIS, NIST).
- Experience collaborating with InfoSec/SOC teams.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with business stakeholders and present patch plans.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work under pressure during maintenance windows.
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Red Hat, VMware VCP, CCNA, Security+) preferred.Key Attributes
