Freelance Opportunity – Data Engineer (Medior/Senior)

We're looking for a Data Engineer to support a large-scale data transformation program. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining end-to-end data pipelines and data models across both cloud and on-premise platforms. You'll contribute to the foundations that enable analytics, BI, advanced reporting, and machine learning initiatives.

Mission

You design and implement robust ETL/ELT workflows, integrate complex business data, optimize data processing, and ensure the overall quality and performance of the data ecosystem.

Depending on experience, you also contribute to standards, best practices, and team coaching.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and extend data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and physical data models
• Consolidate and prepare data to support analytics, BI, and advanced data use cases
• Build and maintain data architectures across cloud (AWS/Azure) and on-premise platforms
• Develop scalable, secure, and high-performance data integration solutions
• Translate business needs into clear technical requirements and implementation plans
• Maintain and improve existing data flows, resolve incidents, and identify optimization opportunities
• Contribute to data governance, documentation, and best practices
• Participate in system integration, testing, and quality assurance
• (Senior level) Define standards, propose tooling improvements, and support team members through coaching or knowledge sharing

Technical Skills

Must-have

• +3 years of experience as a Data Engineer or Data Integration Engineer
• Strong ETL/ELT expertise (DataStage or equivalent)
• Excellent SQL skills: advanced querying, optimization, stored procedures
• Experience with relational databases (DB2, Netezza, or equivalent)
• Good knowledge of cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure)
• Experience with data orchestration/scheduling tools (e.g., Airflow, TWS)
• Scripting experience (Python, UNIX shell)
• Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure as code
• Agile mindset and collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket)
• Understanding of data modeling (Data Vault, dimensional, star-schema)

Nice to have

• Familiarity with NoSQL or Big Data environments (Spark, Hive, Hadoop ecosystem)
• Concepts of data science, ML or AI
• Knowledge of reporting tools (Tableau, Power BI)
• ITIL or testing methodologies knowledge
• Cloud certifications (AWS Architect / Azure AZ-104 / DP-203)

Practical Details
