Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer, the Senior Director, Enterprise Safety Solutions leads the strategic development and delivery of our enterprise workplace safety strategy, developing and implementing comprehensive standards and programs to build technical competencies that deliver a safe and healthy workplace across the enterprise. The role collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safety performance, communication and engagement efforts are aligned with the J&J enterprise, sector priorities, and stakeholder expectations. The Senior Director, Safety Solutions, will lead a team of subject matter and technical experts who develop solutions and innovations that assist functions and sectors with integrating workplace safety considerations into key business decisions, achieving goals and delivering business value.

Strategy & Solutions

  • Lead the development of our global end to end safety strategy and programs (including occupational safety, process safety management & industrial hygiene, office & road safety, and dangerous goods & transportation safety) across our operations and value chain.
  • Obtain alignment and buy-in from relevant functional and sector teams including commercial, supply chain, R&D, procurement, E&PS, finance, legal etc.
  • Develop and support the implementation of annual technical plans to ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and J&J EHS&S standards, to eliminate or control health & safety risks in the workplace, prevent employee injuries and illnesses
  • Continuously collaborates with the sector EHS teams, troubleshooting, adapting and deploying safety solutions to assure compliance, mitigate risk and create value across the breadth of businesses across J&J.
  • Partner with sector EHS teams to integrate resource and budget needs in sector and functional financial planning processes.

Governance & Leadership

  • Establish enterprise governance processes and forums for ensuring stakeholder alignment and engagement and appropriate oversight and visibility to performance both for the sector and the enterprise stakeholders.
  • Lead a team of technical experts that engage with relevant industry associations, trade organizations, and standard setting bodies to benchmark and provide thought leadership.
  • Define and develop J&J's enterprise internal and external policies, positions, and standards related to workplace safety.
  • Partner with the digital team to implement data collection and analytics programs leveraging artificial intelligence solutions to drive continuous improvement and predictive injury prevention.
  • Partner with the digital team to design safety dashboards that appropriately track performance and support governance within our business units.
  • Support health and safety focus audits as part of safety management system.
  • Partner with EHS employee engagement & learning team on technical content for OOS and broader employee safety training and culture building programs

People Leadership

  • Builds, leads, and professionally develops direct and indirect reports including subject matter and technical experts in the team.
  • Accountable for shaping and implementing the organization's Talent agenda in alignment with OOS and TO&R Talent priorities and for having meaningful career development conversations and regular coaching and feedback with direct reports and top talent across the organization.
  • Create an inclusive work environment and communicate effectively at all levels, sectors, and geographies and manage a high performing team in an extremely agile and dynamic sustainability landscape.
  • Partner with EHS learning team to develop training to continuously build and strengthen key EHS capabilities

Qualifications
Required Minimum Education
: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of degree is required. Advanced degree in management, EHS technical field or regulatory affairs, preferred.

Other:
An advanced degree MS or MBA preferred.

Required Years Of Related Experience

  • 15+ years of relevant business experience in implementing safety programs and at least 5+ years working in a global, corporate setting - preferably in the healthcare/pharmaceuticals/medical devices industries

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Experience as an End-to-end business thinker and leader
  • Ability to guide and lead change without authority across a matrixed organization.
  • Proven track record of building trust, partnerships, and influence across diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders from technical experts to C-suite leaders.
  • Extensive experience successfully leading building high performance teams (technical experts and generalists) and leading highly visible enterprise strategies from design through execution while consistently exceeding expectations.
  • Learning agility and natural curiosity
  • Financial acumen, managing and influencing budgets and business case development experience.
