Electrical Project Engineer

About the Company

A rapidly growing renewable‑energy engineering firm based in Antwerp is seeking a freelance Electrical Project Engineer to support the delivery of advanced energy projects. The company focuses on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), large scale PV installations, EV charging infrastructure, and high‑voltage grid connected assets.

Role Overview

As a freelance Electrical Project Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across the full project lifecycle from concept design to commissioning. You’ll collaborate with internal teams, EPC partners, and grid operators to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with Belgian and EU standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce electrical designs, schematics, and single‑line diagrams for BESS, PV, EV charging, and HV systems.
• Conduct load flow, short‑circuit, and protection studies.
• Prepare technical specifications, equipment selection, and tender documentation.
• Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and engineering partners.
• Support grid‑connection applications and liaise with DSOs/TSOs.
• Provide on‑site technical oversight during installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, grid codes, and quality standards.
• Contribute technical input to project planning, risk assessments, and feasibility studies.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proven track record (3–7 years) in renewable‑energy, power systems, or industrial electrical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of BESS, PV solar, and EV charging systems.
• Experience with high‑voltage systems and grid‑connected assets.
• Proficiency with design and simulation tools (AutoCAD, EPLAN, Caneco BT).
• Solid understanding of Belgian grid codes and European electrical standards.
• Strong communication skills.

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

• Experience with 36 kV or 50 kV systems.
• Working knowledge of Dutch and/or French.
• Familiarity with SCADA, EMS, or remote monitoring systems.
• Experience in EPC or multidisciplinary project environments.
• Understanding of energy‑market mechanisms or flexibility services.

Contract Details

• Competitive day rate based on experience.
• Contract duration: 12 months
• Start date: ASAP
