Job Title

Project Engineering Manager – Traction Systems – English – ALTEN Belgium


The Position

As part of our ongoing growth, ALTEN Belgium is looking for a Project Engineering Manager (PrEM) to join our teams and contribute to large-scale international rolling stock projects.

In this role, you act as the engineering lead and main technical representative within the project core team, combining technical leadership (50%) with engineering project delivery and coordination (50%). You take ownership of traction-related systems and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in complex, high-stakes environments.


As a Project Engineering Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Leading technical decisions for traction subsystems (motors, converters, traction chains, high-power electronics).
  • Ensuring technical quality, compliance, safety, and resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Managing engineering work packages with full responsibility for Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD).
  • Coordinating and functionally steering multidisciplinary engineering teams (power design, mechanical, software, validation, RAMS).
  • Acting as the primary engineering interface towards the project manager, internal stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Driving engineering governance: design reviews, gate reviews, risk management, configuration control, and change management.
  • Monitoring KPIs, risks, and progress, and providing clear reporting to project and engineering management.


Your Profile

  • Master’s degree in Engineering (mandatory).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering project management within complex system environments (railway, energy, automotive, aerospace, defense).
  • Strong technical background in traction systems and/or high-power / high-voltage electronics.
  • Solid knowledge of QCD management, risk analysis, and technical governance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with strong resilience in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Structured, pragmatic, autonomous, and client-oriented mindset.
  • Language(s): English mandatory; additional languages are an asset.
