The Role

Reporting to the Vice-President for Institutional Advancement and the Director of Development and Alumni, the Director of Development will lead the Development Team and provide strategic leadership in planning, executing, and evaluating fundraising initiatives that support the University's long-term goals. The appointee will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing data-driven fundraising strategies aligned with the University's strategic priorities
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors
  • Identifying new prospects and designing tailored engagement approaches to inspire philanthropic support
  • Leading major gift campaigns and donor stewardship programs to ensure sustained contributions
  • Collaborating with academic and administrative units to craft compelling funding proposals and promotional materials
  • Managing the University's giving platforms, digital outreach, and social media to enhance donor experience and engagement
  • Analyzing fundraising performance metrics and adjusting strategies to optimize outcomes
  • Supervising a team of development professionals and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration

The Director will play a critical role in securing resources to advance HKUST's mission and strategic initiatives.

The Candidate

Applicants should possess:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher
  • Extensive relevant experience in fundraising, communications, or stakeholder engagement, preferably in higher education or nonprofit sectors
  • Proven leadership and team management experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua)
  • Strategic thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency in IT systems and fundraising databases
  • A proactive, creative, and detail-oriented approach to problem-solving and relationship-building

Appointment to the position will be on three-year fixed term contract basis, renewable on mutual agreement.  Competitive remuneration and generous fringe benefits, including housing where appropriate, will be provided.  A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
