SENIOR ASSURANCE ENGINEER
We are seeking a Senior Assurance Engineer to provide independent technical assurance across complex, mission‑critical systems within a defence and NATO environment.
The role operates independently from delivery teams and is focused on providing objective, evidence‑based assurance to support senior and executive decision‑making. The successful candidate will contribute assurance across multiple systems, suppliers, and lifecycle stages, including both in‑development and in‑service capabilities.
Experience in space, military, or safety‑critical defence programmes is strongly preferred.
Contract Length: March-December 2026
Location: Brussels, Belgium
On-Site Requirement: 75% on-site
Security Clearance: Active security clearance (or eligible for reactivation) mandatory

Please note due to the nature of the work, clearance will need to be active or achieved and being a resident of a NATO country, as a minimum, is a prerequisite.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide independent technical assurance across systems, services, and processes within complex defence programmes
- Assess system maturity, readiness, and compliance through risk‑based evaluation and evidence review
- Define, coordinate, and oversee verification and validation activities , including formal test and assurance events
- Review and challenge test evidence, assurance artefacts , and compliance documentation , including outputs from external suppliers
- Identify, record, and track non‑compliances and assurance findings , ensuring evidence‑based resolution
- Support operational acceptance and in‑service assurance activities
- Produce clear, defensible assurance reports and status updates suitable for senior stakeholders
Your Profile:
- At least 5 years recent experience planning and executing test, verification, and validation activities on complex programmes and systems
- Demonstrated experience with functional, non‑functional, and interoperability testing of systems and products
- Proven ability to work effectively with external stakeholders, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams during the execution of large and complex projects
- Strong capability to understand, analyse, and reason about hardware and software system architectures typical of modern system design
- Experience leading or managing teams of testers, quality engineers, or development engineers
- Practical experience working in, and testing within, virtualised and cloud‑based environments
- Familiarity with industry‑standard test management, defect management, and requirements management tools
- Experience providing assurance in contexts where testing is conducted independently or by external parties , including the review and assessment of third‑party test evidence
Desirable Skills
- Advanced certification in testing or test management
- Experience operating within the defence, military, or NATO domain
- Familiarity with assurance tools, assurance processes, and governance frameworks
- Experience as an interoperability tester or assurance engineer within a NATO context
