The Role: VAT Compliance Specialist

Location: Hybrid, Mechelen (Flexible - preferred 1 day p/week in the office with freedom to work from office more if you wish)

We currently have an excellent opportunity for a VAT Compliance Specialist to join our team on a permanent basis.

What you'll do

  • Support the European VAT Manager and provide expertise on all VAT and Intrastat matters for EU and non-EU operations, including import and shipment planning.
  • Ensure compliance with VAT and Intrastat regulations, maintaining deadlines and managing audits across Europe.
  • Develop, implement, and improve VAT systems, procedures, and controls - including those required under Sarbanes Oxley.
  • Lead and support the rollout of SAP and related applications (Concur, Ariba, I2P), as well as e-invoicing and SAF-T/VIDA implementation.
  • Deliver training to accounting teams and shared service centers on VAT processes and system usage.
  • Optimize VAT setup and cash-flow planning, supporting business and finance teams while reducing VAT finance costs.

What are we looking for?

  • Post Graduate with a Bachelor or Master degree in law/economics/tax
  • Demonstrable experience in VAT Compliance either in industry or with consultant firm is preferred
  • Fluent in English and good knowledge of French
  • Experience with Excel and Access
  • Financial & Accounting insight/experience
  • Familiar with commercial and financial systems
