As announced by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, HKUST will establish Hong Kong's third medical school. We are now seeking dedicated, high-caliber and motivated individuals to join our dynamic and supportive team in various posts related to IT and Digital Education. Appointees will play a key role in developing, maintaining and administering the IT system and digital education and learning ecosystem of the School of Medicine. Appointment will initially be made under the Office of the Dean of Science, transferring to the School of Medicine upon its establishment.

Key Responsibilities

Appointees will be entrusted with key responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the development and implementation of an IT and digital learning strategy for the School of Medicine.
  • Support the development of School policies and procedures related to Information Technology, data privacy and security, data resilience and recovery, ensuring compliance with University policies and local rules and regulations.  
  • Provide technical expertise to plan, maintain and administer the whole IT and digital learning architecture and ecosystem of the School to support staff and students, including for example  designing, developing, and maintaining web applications using front-end, back-end, and database technologies as required to support the School's operation and delivery of the MBBS program.
  • Work with faculty, senior leadership, administrative colleagues, and relevant University counterparts to plan, set up and support relevant digital education and learning platforms, taking into consideration the unique features of a medical curriculum.  
  • Collaborate with vendors to develop, test, and deploy web applications, as appropriate.
  • Conduct regular workflow analyses within the School, monitor performance, and collect end user feedback to ensure sustainability and continuous improvement.
  • Provide timely IT technical support for the School, and troubleshoot and resolve issues related to hardware and software, addressing and resolving IT-related inquiries, for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and AV equipment across offices, classrooms, and laboratories.
  • Keep informed about the latest market trends in hardware and software development / emerging trends to support senior management's review and consideration of IT and digital learning enhancements.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff where appropriate, foster a collaborative and innovative work environment in pursuit of achieving the University's goals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, with higher relevant degree(s) and/or other professional qualifications an advantage for more senior posts.
  • Relevant post-qualification work experience in IT system administration and support within a sizeable organization or tertiary institution within the education sector, including in IT infrastructure, server environments, networking, security, information systems and digital learning. Proficiency in relevant programming, web application development and administration, databases, audio-visual projects, and service desk operations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and work well with diverse teams and individuals and motivate others.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, along with good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, with the capacity to work independently and take proactive ownership of responsibilities to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua).

Work outside normal office hours, including weekends/public holidays or evenings may occasionally be required.

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided where applicable.  Appointments will initially be made on a 2-year contract with contract-end gratuity, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
