About the job

We are looking for a Core Insurance and Finance Domain Architect for our IT organization who has a passion for architecture and change in IT. As a domain architect, you will be part of Architecture guild working for the IT delivery team. The IT delivery team designs, develops and runs all application chains for NN Belgium. The team is divided into different domains/squads with an end-to-end business focus.

A domain is considered a business capability area that delivers a continuous value stream to end users, aligned with a specific scope and purpose. It functions as a connected chain of activities, teams, and systems working together to generate outcomes that matter to customers. For example, in core insurance it can be the journey from policy creation to renewal or termination, involving both insurance operations and finance functions.

As a Domain Architect, you play a pivotal role in shaping the IT landscape to deliver real business value. You are embedded in agile delivery teams, where your architectural expertise ensures that solutions are not only technically sound but also aligned with business priorities.

You bridge the gap between Enterprise Architecture principles and domain-specific needs, translating high-level strategies into actionable designs. At the same time, your domain insights help influence and evolve the broader enterprise architecture.

You collaborate closely with the Domain IT Lead, fellow Architects, the Enterprise Architect, Security Officers, and Scrum teams—ensuring that architecture is not just a blueprint, but a driver of innovation and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities Architectural Leadership:

Own and create the architecture and design of all applications within the domain.

Maintain and evolve the domain application roadmap, ensuring alignment with the overall business strategy.

Lead initiatives to modernize policy administration systems landscape

Ensure systems are maintainable, supportable, and aligned with NN’s enterprise standards (openinsurance architecture) and client expectations.

Reinforce standardization and reusability of components and services.

Establish transition architecture towards target systems

Design building block to support end-to-end business processes around policy administration and finance landscape

Ensure Solutions are secure, scalable, and compliant

Have a holistic view on different cross-domain initiatives that could influence and support integration landscape to achieve end to end design

Acts as the contact point for core insurance and finance domain and ensures domain-wide consistency

Solution Design & Guidance

Translate business and operational requirements into scalable, reusable, and process-aligned technical architectures.

Provide guidance on system design and integration.

Ensure systems are designed to support accuracy, availability, and consistency across business functions.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

You are an active member of the architecture team and work closely with the Domain IT Lead, Architects, Enterprise Architect, Security Officer and Scrum teams within your scope.

Required Technical Skills & Experience

Proven more than 10 years of experience in application architecture, software design, or technical leadership.

Strong understanding of enterprise IT landscapes, ideally within financial services.

Excellent communication and stakeholders’ management skills.

Strategic mindset with strong problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.

Very good knowledge of architectural integration patterns (services, API, event-driven architecture, etc.) and concepts (SOA, componentization, micro services, micro front-ends, etc.)

Extensive experience in architecture modelling tools and architecture methodology and framework (e.g. Archimate , Orbus..)

Understand Cross APP development knowledge (React Native , react js)

Good knowledge of Azure Cloud Services (Azure Solutions Architect Expert is a plus)

Good knowledge on application design and API design

Programming logic (Java, C#, TypeScript)

Knowledge of Programming logic (Java, C#, TypeScript)

Knowledge of Build tools (Ant, Maven, Gradle, Make, npm)

Knowledge of Version control systems (Azure DevOps, Git)

Knowledge of Shell scripting (Bash, PowerShell)

Knowledge of IDEs (VS Code, IntelliJ)

Knowledge of Testing tools (load, smoke, automation)

Knowledge of XML technologies (WSDL, SOAP, XSD, DTD)

Knowledge of Authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML)

Knowledge of ETL tools and application servers (JBoss, WebLogic)

Knowledge of Databases (Oracle, Progress, PostgreSQL)

Knowledge of Messaging technologies (JMS, MQTT, Kafka, RabbitMQ, TIBCO, Azure Service Bus)

Knowledge of Cloud and on-premises architecture

Knowledge of Software development workflows (DTAP, hot deploy, incremental builds)

Engage early in Initiatives and Epics to influence critical decisions related to architecture, design, and testing strategies.

Provide strategic guidance on architectural choices to ensure scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions.

Actively engage in new initiatives and feasibility studies, with the ability to provide cost estimates.

Review and validate solution designs proposed by architects through architecture board

Drive continuous improvement across the domain by streamlining processes (e.g., estimation, documentation, reuse).

Accountable for application security standards with secure coding, including responses to penetration testing or Audit

Accountable for implementing security measures and validating deviations from standards

Control and influence planning to prioritize technical debt, Problem management, performance monitoring at tribe level

Documentation & Onboarding

Guarantee the availability of a comprehensive onboarding pack for newcomers.

Ensure documentation reflects the current state of the domain and its applications.
