Job description

Ghent University enjoys a strong international reputation for research and innovation in animal health. Its Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was ranked first worldwide in the Shanghai Ranking from 2017 to 2022 and continues to rank fourth in 2025. This achievement is the result of high-quality, high-impact research and strong international collaboration. For the first time, Ghent University is coordinating a Horizon Europe (HE) European Partnership. EUPAHW started its activities on 1 January 2024 and will run until 2033 The EUPAHW already started its activities on January 1st, 2024 and will run up to 2033 (extension amendment process ongoing). The partnership will count over 90 partners across 26 EU and non-EU countries with currently 90 partners across 24 EU and non-EU countries.

We are looking for an enthusiast colleague who will support the financial aspects of the partnership. The EUPAHW back-end officer (he/she) will report to the EUPAHW coordinator and deputy coordinator and will be part of the Coordination Support Office. His/her main task will be to support the financial management of the UGent partners in the EUPAHW, including purchase orders, invoices, expenses reports, public procurements…. Ad hoc training and support from an experienced front-end officer will be provided to the selected candidate (also with regards to SAP).

In this function, he/she will in particular:

  • Responsible for the expense management (purchase orders, invoices…) of the UGent budget of the EUPAHW within the internal financial system (SAP) at UGent (back-end office).
  • Work in close collaboration with the Financial Manager (front-end office) of EUPAHW
  • Provide financial guidance to support the management of the Partnership within UGent.
  • Implement effective internal controls to safeguard project resources.
  • Participate in audits related to the European project, with the support of the EUPAHW front-end Financial Manager and the EU Team / Central Administration at UGent.

Your profile
Knowledge and experience
  • You have a professional Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • You have a proven experience (at least 2 years) as accountant
  • You have strong proficiency in relevant financial management software (Excel, SAP is a plus)
  • Experience in projects involving many partners is a plus
  • Being familiar with financial reporting requirements of EU-funded projects is a plus
  • You are reliable, meticulous, precise, organized and detail-oriented
  • Languages: Dutch and English. French is an asset

  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You have strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • You demonstrate high stress tolerance and resilience in demanding work environments.
  • You are flexible and open-minded.
