SAP / EDI Application Architect


Job purpose:
The SAP / EDI project team at Bridgestone EMEA implements electronic data interchange (EDI) solutions with external partners such as car manufacturers and dealers. The team of approximately 10 people consists of architects, SAP S/4 functional and technical analysts, and developers.
Your role is to advise, design, and lead the implementation of EDI projects end to end. You plan, analyze, and design solutions according to new business and partner needs and decide on the technical and functional orientation of the EDI solutions. You take ownership of the existing EDI processes and actively contribute to their continuous improvement.
You interact regularly with business counterparts and other SAP application architects and engage with multiple IT and business stakeholders across Europe to discuss requirements and define the best solutions for Bridgestone and its customers. While you have a strong understanding of SAP Clean Core principles, you apply them pragmatically, balancing industry and Bridgestone standards with business urgency and efficient delivery.

You will get the opportunity to work directly on SAP S/4, EDI, and PI/CPI areas and interact with experienced IT colleagues from many other domains on cutting-edge technologies.
You will be located at the EMEA headquarters in Brussels or in our manufacturing hub in Bilbao. Many of the daily activities at Bridgestone are supported by tools selected as part of the digitalization path of the company. MS Teams meetings and remote access to systems are essential components of our working tools, allowing you to communicate with different teams, stay synchronized, and support home or remote working.
Main responsibilities:
Your main responsibility is to advise, design, and implement new data interchanges with external partners in Europe.
You coordinate the EDI functional team, business counterparts, external partners, and ABAP and PI/PO/CPI specialists.
You supervise the work of EDI colleagues and guide them in making the right functional and technical choices, based on a strong understanding of the core EDI and Order-to-Cash flows.
You act as the IT contact toward external partners and as the architectural point of contact for EDI within the European IT organization, contributing to cross-functional IT initiatives where EDI is involved.
You understand partner EDI requirements and translate them into technical and functional specifications, promoting standard solutions and minimizing custom developments.
You define and maintain EDI message mapping specifications for PI/PO specialists and understand the ABAP programs related to EDI processing. When required, you write functional specifications and provide guidance to ABAP developers.
If needed, you perform SAP customizing and maintain the necessary table settings in the SAP system.
You ensure that EDI documentation is continuously maintained and actively participate in testing activities.
You actively share knowledge and assure knowledge transfer to EDI team members and support colleagues.
You act as third-line support for complex EDI issues when required.
Required capabilities:
Strong coordination and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with different levels of the organization, both IT and business, inside and outside the company.
Deep functional knowledge of SAP SD and good knowledge of MM, including IDoc interfaces, partner profiles, ALE, and output controls. Familiarity with standard SAP SD/MM flows and documents such as orders, contracts, scheduling agreements, deliveries, and invoices.
Very strong analytical skills, with the ability to understand partner and business needs and translate them into clear, pragmatic technical and functional solutions.
Creativity and agility combined with a strong sense of standardization, aiming to reuse existing solutions or design simple and efficient approaches within defined timelines.
Ability to analyze and debug ABAP code and understand how technical implementations support business processes. An ABAP background that enables guidance of developers is a strong asset.
Solid understanding of SAP Clean Core principles and the ability to apply them in a pragmatic manner, balancing standards with business needs.
Willingness to learn and deepen expertise in industry-specific EDI standards and become a reference in the automotive EDI domain.
Ability to work autonomously while also being a strong team player, with an active contribution to knowledge sharing and mentoring within the team.
Experience:
BS/MS degree in IT or related field.
10+ years of experience in SAP SD module and good knowledge in MM.
Good skill in ABAP (read/debug). SAP Clean Core experience is appreciated.
The knowledge of the EDI message formats like ORDER, DELFOR, DESADV, INVOIC in EDIFACT standards and XML is a big plus.
Experience with API and JSON is a plus.
Fluent English is a must, knowledge of any other languages is an asset.
