Chief Business Development Officer


Role: Fractional Chief Business Development Officer

We’re looking to connect with commercial architects and deal-makers who operate at the intersection of strategy, product, and sales. If you are an expert at identifying where the market is going, opening doors that seem impossible to open, and structuring deals that fundamentally change the trajectory of a business, this is a great opportunity to apply your executive toolkit flexibly while guiding organizations through critical growth stages.

This role is ideal for seasoned executives and former founders who want to design revenue engines and lead high-stakes negotiations for multiple scaling companies on a part-time, project-based, or advisory retainer basis.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Growth Strategy: Defining the long-term roadmap for revenue expansion, including the selection of new target markets and customer segments.
  • Strategic Alliances: Identifying and negotiating transformative partnerships that provide access to new distribution channels or technologies.
  • New Market Entry: conducting the analysis and leading the execution for launching the business into new geographies or verticals.
  • Revenue Architecture: Designing the pricing models, contract structures, and sales methodologies that maximize profitability and lifetime value.
  • M&A Support: Identifying potential acquisition targets or preparing the company for a strategic exit or fundraising event.
  • Executive Selling: Leading the negotiation on the company’s largest, most complex deals that require C-level peer-to-peer engagement.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Ensuring that product development and marketing strategies are tightly aligned with commercial feedback from the market.
  • Team Leadership: Mentoring existing sales or business development leaders to elevate their strategic thinking and execution.

Required qualities may include:

  • Proven Experience: A track record of holding senior leadership roles where you were directly responsible for company-wide revenue strategy.
  • Deal Structuring: Expert-level ability to craft complex commercial agreements that balance risk and reward.
  • Visionary Thinking: The ability to see beyond the current quarter and anticipate market shifts before competitors do.
  • Network: A robust ecosystem of contacts at the decision-maker level across relevant industries.
  • Financial Acumen: Deep understanding of unit economics, margins, and how business development activities impact the P&L.
  • Communication: The ability to articulate a compelling vision to the board, investors, and potential partners.
  • Agility: The ability to pivot strategies quickly based on real-time market feedback.
