How will you make an impact

The American Express Compliance department in Belgium is looking for a Legal Entity Compliance Officer and MLRO to lead our Brussels based Compliance team.

The successful Compliance Manager brings a solid Compliance understanding and in-depth AML/CTF knowledge and is able to provide actionable and clear Compliance-related advice & support to the Business.

The new Manager will work together with the Compliance Director for Benelux and lead the Belgian Compliance team of 4 professionals and will be involved in all aspects of AML and will lead the team for relevant regulatory areas like consumer protection and privacy, and other Compliance focus areas, in Belgium and Luxembourg (BELUX).

What will you do

• Keeping oversight and responsibility for adherence to applicable legislation and regulations.

• Providing timely advice to the Business on AML/CTF-related matters.

• Analyzing processes to evaluate AML risks and strengthen the control-environment.

• Identifying and understanding key risks, issues and trends, and to develop meaningful information be shared with leadership on how to manage risks and maintain a robust control environment.

• Acting independently and making decisions representing the BELUX compliance team during interactions with Business partners.

• Acting as first point of contact to regulators in BELUX.

• Leading the team and ensuring a prompt escalation of potential issues.

• Overseeing and supporting Transaction Monitoring and Screening activities and the respective investigation and reporting conducted.

• Identification and regulatory assessment of new requirements applicable to the business.

• Development of applicable policies and procedures and regular updates in the areas of AML/CTF, Sanctions, Anti-corruption.

• Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and internal policy requirements.

• Lead the AML/CTF risk assessment according to the regulatory requirements.

What will you need to succeed

• At least 5 years' experience in regulatory compliance field, in banks/financial institutions or audit/consulting firm.

• University degree (Law/Economics degree); AML certificate is a plus.

• Proven experience as people leader.

• Proven knowledge of applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the payments industry, global financial crimes compliance, privacy and consumer protection which include, but are not limited to: European Money Laundering Regulations, Anti-Corruption & Bribery laws.

• Very good understanding of Compliance, the Compliance Management System and in-depth knowledge of AML/CTF.

• Professional maturity and confidence in expressing a point of view with colleagues at various levels in a matrix organization and ability to build rapport and trust, garner respect and exercise authority appropriately in a collaborative environment.

• Excellent organizational and planning skills: the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a deadline-intensive environment

• Excellent knowledge of Dutch and English language, spoken and written.
