Solutions Architect

Exciting freelance opportunity with a leading energy infrastructure partner!

We’re looking for an experienced Azure Cloud Architect with strong security expertise to help design and implement secure, scalable cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure.

You’ll join a high-impact engineering team at one of Belgium's and Europe's electricity transmission system operator to support the continent’s green energy transition through secure, cloud-driven platforms.

Logistics:

• Position: Freelance Azure Cloud Architect (Security)
• Duration: 12-Month Contract (strong likelihood of extension)
• Location: Brussels (Hybrid - 2+ days per week)
• Languages: English AND French or Dutch
• Start Date: ASAP
• Day Rate: €(Negotiable & Competitive)

Core Responsibilities:

• Design and implement secure, highly available Azure cloud infrastructures
• Apply DevSecOps principles across development, deployment, and operations
• Enforce governance via Azure Policy, Blueprints, and Management Groups
• Secure identity and access with Azure Entra ID, PIM, RBAC, and Conditional Access
• Automate infrastructure provisioning with Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates
• Build CI/CD pipelines with integrated security scanning (e.g. ArgoCD, SonarQube)
• Implement data protection strategies using Key Vault and Azure Disk Encryption
• Monitor and manage cloud environments with Azure Sentinel, Monitor, and Defender
• Contribute to incident response and disaster recovery planning
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed security by design

Essential Skills:

• 5+ years in cloud architecture, cloud security, or DevSecOps
• 3+ years hands-on Azure experience in enterprise environments
• Deep expertise in Azure security services (Sentinel, Defender, Entra ID, Key Vault)
• Strong grasp of cloud networking, hybrid setups, and virtual networking
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (ISO 27001, GDPR, NIS2)
• Experience with container security (Docker, AKS)
• Strong scripting ability (PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Python)
• Solid CI/CD experience using tools like Azure DevOps or ArgoCD
• Proficiency with monitoring, alerting, and compliance tools

Desirable Skills:

• Azure certifications (e.g. Solutions Architect, Security Engineer Associate)
• Security certifications (e.g. CISSP, CCSP, CISM)
• Experience with Kong, Event Hubs, or Dapr
• Knowledge of IaC best practices and cost optimization in Azure
• Ability to join a rotating on-call schedule (24/7 support)
• Extra languages: French or Dutch at B1 level
