Team overview

Our Brussels Competition & EU law team regularly represents companies, industry associations and governments before the European Commission, national competition authorities and the EU Courts . Our practice covers all aspects of competition law, (including cartel, abuse of dominance, merger control), State aid law and FSR.
Job overview
We are looking for a legal intern for a 6-month' paid internship within our Competition & EU law practice area.
During your internship, your responsibilities will include:
- Conduct comprehensive legal research on EU competition law, including antitrust, merger control, state aid, and regulatory matters relevant to client needs and ongoing cases.
- Assist in the preparation and drafting of legal memoranda, client alerts, and internal briefings on recent developments in EU and competition law.
- Support the team in the preparation of filings, submissions, and responses to the European Commission (DG Comp) and other regulatory authorities.
- Review and analyse documents and evidence for ongoing investigations, merger reviews, and litigation before EU courts and competition authorities.
- Participate in client meetings, conference calls, and internal strategy sessions, taking detailed notes and preparing summaries as required.
- Monitor and report on legislative and policy developments at the EU level that may impact clients' business operations.
- Assist in the organization and delivery of client seminars, workshops, and training sessions on EU competition law topics.
- Collaborate with colleagues across practice groups and offices to provide integrated legal solutions to clients.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EU competition law and contribute to the department's knowledge management initiatives.
- Perform other tasks and administrative duties as required to support the smooth functioning of the Competition & EU Law department.
Interns can expect hands-on exposure to live client work, knowledge projects and day-to-day support from lawyers, with close supervision and feedback.
Essential skills and experience
Experience and qualifications
- You are currently enrolled into a Master's degree in law, LL.M. in European law, or about to graduate;
- A specialization in Competition & EU law would be considered a significant asset;
- Preliminary experience within a law firm and/or in DG Comp is a strong advantage.
Skills
- Fluency in English and proficiency in French. Proficiency in Dutch will be considered an asset.
- An adaptable person who is eager to learn;
- A team-player who can work effectively with colleagues at all levels;
- Excellent legal analysis and organisation skills, as well as solution driven;
- An entrepreneurial mindset;
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in writing.
