Overview
DGA is looking for an experienced public affairs practitioner to become our next director serving the needs of our growing client base - particularly clients active in EU chemicals policy. Based in the heart of Brussels, the role will involve navigating political and policy challenges, working with top-tier businesses, and fostering innovation alongside our friendly, vibrant, and award-winning team. Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day execution of key client accounts, acting as the primary point of contact for project workflows, budget tracking, and resourcing to ensure smooth delivery.
- Translate complex technical developments (e.g. RAC/SEAC opinions, CLH proposals, RoHS assessments) into clear, actionable business intelligence and strategic advocacy plans for client regulatory teams.
- Deliver integrated advocacy campaigns that bridge high-level legislative files (REACH revision, Chemicals Omnibus) and technical substance-defence workstreams.
- Draft, edit, and finalise high-quality written materials in native-level English (policy briefings, consultation responses, position papers) requiring minimal senior revision.
- Advise clients on the commercial implications of EU industrial and chemicals policy, helping them anticipate risks and adapt engagement strategies.
- Coordinate and review the work of junior team members, guiding them through complex procedures (including comitology) and ensuring client reporting is accurate and timely.
- Spot opportunities to expand support within existing accounts and support senior leadership in proposals and pitch materials.
Qualifications
- Approximately 5 to 8 years’ relevant experience in EU public affairs roles (consultancy, trade association, or in-house), with a strong track record in chemicals and environmental policy.
- Proven ability to interpret scientific dossiers and translate technical inputs into political strategy, bridging technical work and EU decision-making.
- Strong working knowledge of the EU chemicals framework (REACH & CLP as a must - RoHS, BPR, FCMs, POPs, or CPR as an asset), plus an understanding of broader industrial competitiveness dynamics.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to own end-to-end delivery of client workstreams and consistently meet deadlines and quality expectations.
- Native-level written and spoken English is required, with the ability to synthesise complex topics into concise, high-impact summaries.
- Established professional network within relevant EU institutions (ENVI/ITRE committees, DG GROW/ENV), MSCAs, and industry trade associations.
- University degree in law, politics, or economics. Interest in chemistry, biology, toxicology is a distinct asset but not a requirement.
- Resilient, solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
