European Partnership Front-end Financial Manager


Ghent University enjoys a strong international reputation for research and innovation in animal health. Its Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was ranked first worldwide in the Shanghai Ranking from 2017 to 2022 and continues to rank fourth in 2025. This achievement is the result of high-quality, high-impact research and strong international collaboration. For the first time, Ghent University is coordinating a Horizon Europe (HE) European Partnership. EUPAHW started its activities on 1 January 2024 and will run until 2033. The EUPAHW already started its activities on January 1st, 2024 and will run up to 2033 (extension amendment process ongoing). The partnership will count over 90 partners across 26 EU and non-EU countries with currently 90 partners across 24 EU and non-EU countries.

We are looking for an enthusiast colleague who will support the financial aspects of the partnership. The EUPAHW Financial Manager (he/she) will report to the EUPAHW coordinator and deputy coordinator and will be part of the Coordination Support Office. His/her main task will be to financially manage the partnership, collect data from partners and deliver ad hoc financial reports for the internal financial management and the HE periodic reports. The position supports sound financial management, compliance with EU regulations, and accountability towards the European Commission and UGent. Ad hoc training and support from an experienced UGent front-end officer will be provided to the selected candidate.
In this function, he/she will in particular:
Be responsible for the daily management of the UGent budget of the EUPAHW within the internal financial system (SAP) at UGent (front-end office). Ensure completeness and traceability of supporting documentation
Work in close collaboration with the UGent back-end officer of the EUPAHW.
Prepare an annual report of the budget for the General Assembly and Governing Board and follow up the overall annual budget of the partnership.
Prepare the HE periodic financial reports and ensure compliance with reporting requirements set by the European Research Executive Agency,
Be in contact with the financial departments of EUPAHW partners to collect and verify their annual cost reports and, where necessary, provide general guidance on Horizon Europe (HE) financial regulations. He/she will be assisted in this task by the central administration of UGent and its EU Team.
Provide strategic financial guidance to support the management of the Partnership, identify financial risks, develop mitigation strategies and advise the coordinator.
Implement effective internal controls to safeguard project resources.
Act as UGent/EUPAHW financial contact during audits and controls with the support of the Back-end Officer and the EU Team / Central Administration at UGent.

Your profile
Knowledge and experience
You have a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
You have a proven experience as a Financial Manager, experience in projects involving large and international consortia is a plus
You are familiar with EU-funded projects and financial reporting requirements
You have an excellent understanding of financial planning, analysis, and reporting
You have strong proficiency in relevant financial management software (Excel, SAP is a plus)
You are reliable, meticulous, precise, organized and detail-oriented
You have the ability to present synthetic financial data for decision-making processes
Languages: Dutch and English. French is an asset
Skills and attitudes
You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
You have strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
You demonstrate high stress tolerance and resilience in demanding work environments.
You are flexible and open-minded.
