J&J Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Senior Project Engineer reporting to the Director Project Management EMEA and to be based in Beerse (Belgium).

At Engineering & Property Services (E&PS) we take care of all J&J buildings in Belgium providing services from Real Estate, Engineering & Strategic Project Delivery to Facilities Management. The Sr Project Engineer is accountable for the performance of assigned projects on the Beerse site, leading projects through our standard Project management standards FPX (Flawless Project Execution) and IDEA (ideation, definition, execution and assessment phases). The major activities of the Sr Project Engineer are: driving innovation to ensure safety and appropriate quality, translate the need of our internal clients in a technical solution, using learning adoption internally and externally, coordinate and align a team of internal and external project members, ensure that our standards and agency regulations like FDA are followed. The Sr Project Engineer has an exciting role with a large degree of scope and autonomy to deliver excellence in project execution and supporting the business goals. You will join the E&PS Project delivery team composed of 12 project and Construction Managers.

The best candidate for this role has experience of leading end to end capital projects. They have good communication skills and knowledge of civil engineering, process engineering, HVAC and E&I. Knowledge of the pharma or medical devices is a must. You are eager to learn continuously and like to work with many colleagues and partners across other functional areas who are involved in your projects. Making good relationships and align team members is something that gives you energy.

Key responsibilities

  • Handle several projects simultaneously and have program management responsibility for a portfolio of projects up to 10-20 MM €.
  • Act as Project Lead on Projects from concept to post implementation stage in accordance with our standard IDEA process, together with A/E firms or directly with contractors.
  • Define and plan new projects in close collaboration with the business to deliver strategic solutions aligned with the business strategy.
  • Understand our technical standards, procedures and agency regulations like FDA for utility systems to apply them in our projects and challenge our engineering partners to apply them correctly.
  • Translate the project definition in a design ensuring that elements of environment, health, safety, quality and life cycle are covered while maintaining the focus on constructability
  • Develop the project execution plan, including relevant execution strategies for design, construction, procurement, risks etc and adjust as needed during the project lifecycle.
  • Lead Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR) preparation and approval in alignment with corporate funding procedures.
  • Guide external engineers on project delivery processes, technical standards and equipment specifications as the J&J project coach
  • Translate the project definition in a design ensuring that elements of environment, health, safety, quality and life cycle are covered while maintaining the focus on constructability
  • Define the budget and planning and closely supervise these during the entire project lifecycle, to ensure attainment of budget and planning within agreed baselines.
  • Define the communication plan and advise sponsor, user and other partners on a regular basis by creating, maintaining and presenting reports on project status (scope, budget, planning, risks and mitigations and overall performance against baseline targets)
  • Supervise the construction activities in collaboration with the construction management team and ensure a smoothness handover to the user
  • Act as a construction safety champion, ensuring that standards are implemented and safety metrics are met.
  • Lead Project Close Out activities including operational handover, documentation archiving, financial project closure and value delivered, collation of benchmarking and lessons learned opportunities.

Education

  • Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent through experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint required

Preferred

  • Familiarity with J&J PM approaches (FPX & IDEA Project Delivery Process)

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

Required:

  • Minimum of 10 years of Project Management experience of which 3years specific in Pharma-industry
  • Prior experience with capital projects in the industry
  • Understands business needs and can translate these to engineering concepts
  • Process-oriented, process knowledgeable
  • Ability to lead and empower remote and virtual teams and partners
  • Good listening and problem-solving skills when handling potential conflicts within regions when implementing global standards and guidelines. Understanding sophisticated technical/regulatory issues impacting products.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships at all levels within the organization, internally (FM/MAM/RE) and with Business partners (Finance/ E&D/ Operations)
  • Knowledge of Project Controls in cost and schedule development, financial assessments and managing of budget and schedule
  • Manufacturing experience in FDA or other regulated environments from design through startup is an advantage.
  • Experience on contracting and negotiation

Location: Beerse (Belgium)

Travel Requirements: This position will require up to 10% domestic travel.
