Senior API Engineer - Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior API Engineer with a passion for geospatial data and scalable system design. In this role, you’ll lead the architecture and development of robust APIs that make complex GIS datasets, including maps, rasters, and vector data, accessible, usable, and performant.

You’ll be the technical expert driving our data infrastructure forward: designing modern API architectures, implementing best practices for API management, and helping internal teams seamlessly integrate GIS data services into their workflows.

What We Need from You

You’re an experienced engineer who thrives on solving technical challenges and delivering clean, scalable solutions. You’ll bring:

Core Skills & Experience:

• GIS Expertise: Strong understanding of geospatial data and standards (WMS, WFS, OGC APIs).
• Hands-on Development: Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs using Python, Java, or Node.js.
• GIS Tools: Practical experience with tools and libraries such as QGIS, ArcGIS, GDAL, PostGIS.
• API Architecture: Ability to translate long-term technical vision into well-structured, maintainable API systems.
• API Management: Knowledge of tools like Kong, Apigee, or Azure API Management for monitoring, security, and versioning.

Bonus Points For:

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of modern OGC API standards.
