Senior Network Security Engineer
We are hiring a Freelance Senior Network & Security Engineer for a long-term contract running until end of the year. This role sits within a technology-driven business delivering secure network and infrastructure solutions to enterprise and critical infrastructure clients across Europe. This is a hands-on, client-facing engineering role focused on secure network design, firewall implementation and private cloud connectivity. It is not a pure support or SOC position.
Responsibilities:
Design and validate secure network architectures for client environments
Implement and configure Fortinet and/or Palo Alto firewall solutions
Deploy and secure routers, switches and access points (hardware + software)
Configure routing, segmentation and VPN connectivity
Support private cloud and data centre network infrastructure
Act as the technical lead during project delivery alongside Project Managers
Provide 2nd and 3rd line support on complex installations
Deliver on-site client training following implementation
Contribute to vulnerability management and security hardening activities
Requirements:
Experience
5–7+ years in a Network & Security Engineering role
Strong experience in enterprise or managed services environments
Technical Skills
Fortinet (FortiGate) and/or Palo Alto firewalls
HA clustering
Centralised management
Advanced security policies
Strong L3 networking knowledge:
Routing (static and dynamic)
NAT and VLAN segmentation
IPsec VPN
ACLs and 802.1x
Solid understanding of secure network architecture principles
Experience installing and configuring network hardware
Working knowledge of VMware and core Windows/Linux fundamentals
