Position Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys solving diverse problems and working across different technologies. You’ll build high-quality software for leading companies—ranging from robust backends and well-designed APIs to user-facing apps.
Your first project will focus on Python, Django, and AI engineering. Future projects may involve other technologies based on client needs. We’re after a well-rounded engineer who’s eager to learn, share knowledge, and guide clients through technical challenges.
If you like switching contexts between projects and mentoring peers in a collaborative environment, we’d love to meet you.
NOTE: this is not a remote position, we would like to see you at our Antwerp office min 2 days/week
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build clean, scalable, maintainable architectures
- Develop robust backends and APIs (starting with Django/Python)
- Safeguard quality with code reviews, testing, and CI/CD
- Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and craftsmanship
- Work closely with product owners, designers, and strategists to deliver value
- Apply modern toolchains and AI assistance (e.g., Claude, Copilot, OpenAI) to accelerate development
- Balance cost, complexity, and business value to choose the right solution for the context
- Mentor colleagues and share best practices
- Make pragmatic decisions that align with client goals in a consulting setting
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software development experience
- Strong engineering fundamentals: clean code, design patterns, testing, scalability
- Solid experience with at least one modern backend framework (Django, Spring Boot, Node.js/NestJS, …)
- Familiarity with frontend frameworks (React, Next.js, or similar) is a plus
- Experience with relational & NoSQL databases, caching, and cloud-native deployments (Azure/AWS)
- Comfort with CI/CD and DevOps practices
- Practical experience using AI in the development lifecycle
- Excellent communication in English (Dutch is a plus)
- Consulting mindset: translate client needs into workable technical solutions
- Ability to weigh business value vs. implementation effort and maximize impact
Nice to Have
- Exposure to mobile (React Native, Flutter)
- Knowledge of event-driven systems & microservices
- Experience with Docker/Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code
- Background in AI/ML-powered applications
- Prior consulting or agency experience
Soft Skills
- Strong communicator with clients, stakeholders, and team
- Detail-oriented with a focus on code quality and best practices
- Proactive, pragmatic, and able to balance speed vs. quality
- Comfortable managing priorities in a multi-project environment
- Passionate about continuous learning and knowledge sharing
Interview Expectations
Be ready to:
- Show how you use AI toolchains (e.g., Claude, Copilot, Windsurf, OpenAI) in daily work—live if possible.
- Demo something you’ve built: what it does, how you built it, key architecture decisions, and what you’d improve.
- Discuss business trade-offs: how you balance the “ideal” solution with real-world constraints like time, deadlines, and client needs.
