Packaging Engineer

Your future role


As a Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and optimizing primary and secondary packaging solutions for our full range of chocolate products. This role requires a blend of technical engineering skills, knowledge of materials science, creativity, and a deep appreciation for food safety, brand aesthetics, and regulatory compliance.


In this role, you will be assigned the following tasks:


Design and Development

  • You will develop innovative, functional, and cost-effective packaging solutions for new and existing chocolate products. This includes creating and validating technical drawings, artwork, and samples.
  • You will ensure that the packaging meets the requirements for product protection, shelf life, and shipping conditions (e.g., temperature sensitivity).
  • You will manage data entry into the appropriate data management systems and follow up on it.


Testing and Validation

  • You will conduct, analyze and document packaging tests (e.g., drop, compression, and transport simulation tests) and provide fact-driven recommendations.
  • You will collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to validate packaging performance and product integrity.
  • You will perform test of (new) packaging on (new) machinery in-house or at supplier’s location and support its successful integration into production.


Sustainability and Compliance

  • You will identify and implement sustainable packaging materials and processes.
  • You will ensure compliance with food safety, regulatory, and industry standards (e.g., FDA, EU standards, FSC, etc.).


Regulations Monitoring & Follow-up

  • You will stay up to date on packaging laws and regulations, such as those concerning food-contact materials, migration limits, single-use plastics, and recycling requirements.
  • You will monitor regulatory developments (e.g., EU directives, national implementation, etc.) that affect packaging materials, recycling mandates, environmental impact, and food safety.
  • You will assess how changes in regulation could impact current packaging processes, costs, the supply chain, labeling, and materials.


Process improvement

  • You will identify and implement packaging improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
  • You will stay up to date on emerging trends, material innovations, and packaging technologies.


Cross-functional collaboration

  • You will work with R&D, Marketing, Sales, Production, Procurement and Suppliers to achieve packaging goals.
  • You will support the marketing team to align packaging with product identity and shelf appeal.



The profile we are looking for:


  • You are graduated from a Master’s Degree in Packaging Engineering or an equivalent technical field.
  • You have demonstrated strong expertise in packaging, as well as a solid understanding of industrial processes. Experience in the food industry would be an advantage
  • You are able to deliver concrete results in a timely manner
  • You have strong analytical skills and a hands-on approach
  • You have the ability to work autonomously and take initiative to achieve desired results
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French (Dutch skills would be a plus).
