Freelance Data Architect – Snowflake & Databricks Migration Programme

Programme Overview

Our client, a leading telecommunications provider, is delivering a large-scale enterprise data transformation programme focused on migrating legacy platforms into a modern, cloud-based data ecosystem.

They are seeking a highly experienced Freelance Data Architect with strong Snowflake and Databricks expertise to define, design, and oversee the target-state architecture across the migration landscape.

This is a strategic, long-term role with significant architectural ownership and influence across business and technology domains.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and own the target data architecture for migration to Snowflake and Databricks
• Design scalable, secure, and high-performance data platform solutions
• Lead architecture decisions across ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption layers
• Oversee migration of legacy data warehouses and ETL frameworks
• Establish best practices for data modelling, governance, and platform optimisation
• Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, security, and business stakeholders
• Provide technical leadership and architectural governance throughout delivery
• Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and regulatory requirements

Required Experience

• Proven experience as a Data Architect on large-scale migration or transformation programmes
• Deep hands-on and architectural expertise in Snowflake (data warehousing, optimisation, performance tuning)
• Strong experience with Databricks and Apache Spark
• Extensive experience designing modern cloud data platforms
• Strong background in data modelling (enterprise-level, dimensional & modern architectures)
• Experience working in complex enterprise environments (telecommunications or similar scale preferred)
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Technical Expertise

• Snowflake architecture & optimisation
• Databricks / Spark (PySpark preferred)
• Cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
• Data governance & security architecture
• CI/CD & DevOps for data platforms
• Migration strategy & legacy system modernisation

Engagement Model

• 24-month freelance contract
• €1200 per day
