Freelance Electrical Engineer | MV Substation Design | 11kv-36kv


The Opportunity:

We are currently supporting a leading EPC contractor in Belgium delivering a portfolio of Medium Voltage (MV) substation projects. As part of this expansion, we're looking to engage a Freelance Electrical Engineer experienced in MV infrastructure, particularly across both the design and execution phases.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to technically advanced grid and industrial power projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement MV substation systems (typically 11kV–36kV)
  • Perform cable sizing and routing calculations
  • Develop and review electrical drawings using EPLAN
  • Provide engineering support across planning, execution, and commissioning
  • Ensure compliance with Belgian standards (AREI/RGIE) and project specs
  • Coordinate with internal teams, site engineers, and subcontractors
  • Support commissioning, FAT/SAT, and site inspections

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in MV substation projects (design/execution)
  • Skilled in EPLAN for electrical schematics and layout drawings
  • Proficient in cable calculation tools (e.g. Caneco, TR-CIEL, or Ecodial)
  • Strong understanding of MV switchgear, protection systems, and grounding
  • Familiarity with AREI/RGIE and Belgian grid standards
  • Language: English essential; Dutch or French is a strong plus
  • Freelance-compliant within Belgium (EU citizenship or valid setup)
