Job description VIB CMN is seeking a part-time, (Junior) Linux System Administrator to join our IT team.
We’re looking for someone with hands-on Linux administration skills, a strong interest in security, and curiosity for working in a research environment. You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team where you can work independently on specific projects while learning from experienced colleagues.
You will:
- Perform operational system administration tasks (updates, configuration, setup)
- Use scripting and automation tools (bash, Ansible, Python, ...)
- Maintain and monitor log management systems
- Enforce and implement security policies and best practices
- Follow up on audit findings and support compliance
- Report and help mitigate security incidents
Profile - Experience with Linux command line (Debian, AlmaLinux)
- Interest in automation, scripting, and configuration management (Ansible)
- Understanding of virtualization and containers (KVM, LXC, Proxmox)
- Willingness to learn and support CMN’s IT and research infrastructure
- Must be a team player with good collaboration skills.
- Comfortable communicating in English
Nice to have
- Familiarity with version control (Git)
- passionate about open-source software
- Experience in academic or research environments
