System Engineer

Sensor Fusion Engineer – Autonomous Systems (Remote – Belgium / Leuven-based)


We are looking for a highly skilled Sensor Fusion Engineer to join our client's remote team based in Belgium (Leuven). You will be responsible for developing and implementing sensor fusion algorithms that enable real-time perception and decision-making in autonomous systems. Your work will directly contribute to smarter, safer, and more efficient autonomous navigation by integrating data from multiple sensor modalities such as LIDAR, radar, cameras, IMU, and GPS.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement sensor fusion algorithms for autonomous systems
  • Develop real-time data processing pipelines for multi-sensor input
  • Integrate perception modules into embedded or real-time platforms
  • Collaborate with perception, localization, and control teams to ensure consistent world modeling
  • Perform sensor calibration, error modeling, and filtering (e.g., Kalman, Particle filters)
  • Optimize algorithms for low-latency, high-reliability use in real-world environments


Core Skills Required:

  • Strong proficiency in C++, Python, and numerical computing
  • Solid knowledge of sensor fusion techniques (EKF, UKF, SLAM, etc.)
  • Experience working with robotic sensor data (LIDAR, IMU, GPS, camera)
  • Familiarity with real-time systems and embedded development
  • Practical experience with ROS/ROS 2 for integrating perception and navigation stacks
  • Good understanding of coordinate transformations, 3D geometry, and probabilistic modeling


Preferred / Additional Skills:

  • Background in autonomous vehicles, drones, or robotics navigation systems
  • Experience with SLAM, multi-sensor tracking, or Bayesian filtering
  • Knowledge of sensor noise characterization and simulation environments (e.g., Gazebo, Carla)
  • Familiarity with OpenCV, PCL, or other computer vision / point cloud libraries
