Location: Belgium (Wallonia) Contract Type: Freelance Duration: 24 months Industry: Water Treatment / Process Engineering Role Overview A freelance Electrical Engineer is required to support long‑term water treatment and process‑related projects in Belgium. The role involves designing, reviewing, and supporting electrical systems within water treatment plants and process environments. The engineer will work closely with process specialists, instrumentation teams, and site engineers to ensure robust, compliant, and reliable installations. Strong experience in water treatment or similar process‑driven industries is essential. Key Responsibilities Develop and review electrical designs for water treatment facilities, including LV distribution, motor control centers, pump control systems, and instrumentation interfaces. Produce single‑line diagrams, cable calculations, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications. Support integration of electrical systems with process equipment such as pumps, valves, dosing systems, filtration units, and automation platforms (PLC/DCS). Conduct site surveys, assess existing electrical infrastructure, and recommend improvements. Prepare documentation such as load lists, cable schedules, I/O lists, and installation details. Ensure compliance with Belgian electrical standards (AREI/RGIE) and process safety requirements. Collaborate with process engineers, automation engineers, and civil/mechanical teams to ensure cohesive project execution. Participate in installation supervision, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities. Manage design revisions and maintain accurate project documentation throughout the 24‑month delivery period. Required Skills and Experience Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline. Proven experience in water treatment or process‑driven industrial environments (essential). Strong knowledge of LV electrical systems, MCCs, instrumentation, and control loops. Experience using electrical design and calculation tools (Elec Calc experience is an advantage). Familiarity with AutoCAD, EPLAN, or equivalent design platforms. Understanding of pump systems, process instrumentation, level/flow/pressure sensors, and associated I/O. Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Ability to communicate effectively in English and French (both required). Able to work autonomously within multi‑disciplinary project teams. Nice to Have Experience with automation interfaces (PLC, SCADA) from an electrical/instrumentation perspective. Knowledge of water quality processes, filtration technologies, and dosing systems. Previous long‑term freelance experience in Belgium. Familiarity with ATEX or hazardous area classifications (if applicable to the site).
